For the last 12+ years, I have been distanced from my narcissistic mother, and other members of my family, a choice that was necessary for my own mental health and wellbeing. But although I now find myself in a place of peace and happiness- the road to getting here was not an easy one.
Thus, in today’s episode, I share what my journey of creating this distance has looked liked, and the moment that I ‘woke up’ and realized just how manipulative and controlling my childhood actually was.
I discuss the pain and the grief that came with unravelling old memories, the effort it took to choose me, and most importantly, ways to support yourself in your own journey if you find yourself in the presence of toxic family members.
